Biweekly Time Card Calculator

Fourteen days, two workweeks, one paycheck. The calculator splits the period before it counts overtime — the step most biweekly calculators skip.

California has daily overtimeLabor Code 510. First 8 hours on the 7th consecutive day of a workweek at 1.5x; over 8 hours on that 7th day at 2x. Exceptions apply for alternative workweek schedules. California overtime rules →

What a 40-hour-only calculator would have told you

$96.00 less

A calculator that only knows the federal 40-hour rule would show $1,104.00 for this period. Under California rules the total is $1,200.00.

Two workweeks, not one 80-hour block

A biweekly pay period holds two separate workweeks. Overtime is counted in each one on its own, so a heavy week cannot be averaged against a light one.

Example: 45 hours in week one and 35 in week two is 80 hours for the period — and 5 overtime hours, all from week one. At $20 an hour that is $1,650.00. Averaging the two weeks would pay $1,600.00 and leave you $50.00 short.

When the pay period and the workweek start on different days

Many employers run payroll on one schedule and define the workweek on another — Monday to Sunday for pay, Sunday to Saturday for overtime. Set Period starts and Workweek starts separately, and the time card flags any workweek that runs past the edge of the period.

Biweekly Time Card Calculator: common questions

Is overtime calculated over 80 hours in a biweekly pay period?

No. Federal law counts overtime per workweek, and a biweekly period holds two of them. Working 50 hours one week and 30 the next is 10 overtime hours, even though the period totals exactly 80. Paying straight time on all 80 hours in that case underpays the overtime.

How many paychecks does biweekly pay mean?

Biweekly means every two weeks, which gives 26 paychecks in most years and 27 in some, depending on where the paydays fall. It is not the same as semi-monthly pay, which comes twice a month — 24 paychecks a year on fixed dates such as the 1st and 15th.

How do I total a biweekly timesheet?

Enter each day's clock-in, clock-out and unpaid break, then read the totals for each workweek in the grey bars and for the whole period at the bottom. Switch between decimal hours and HH:MM, and download a CSV of all 14 days for payroll.
